VISION 2026

VISION 2026

Turramurra Uniting Church is a vibrant, Christ-centered, inclusive community growing in faith, connection, and service. We seek to follow Jesus in ways that are authentic, compassionate, and outward-lookingโ€”shaping a church that is both spiritually deep and practically engaged. We are committed to seeing growth in meaningful discipleship; being connected in genuine, life-giving community; a multi-generational church where young people are valued and empowered; and a creative and innovative space for worship and mission. We believe this vision is not only possible but already unfoldingโ€”through the Spiritโ€™s leading and our shared commitment to building a church for the 2030โ€™s.

Turramurra Uniting Church – Our Purpose

Over the past year, our church undertook a significant mission planning journey โ€” one shaped by conversation, prayer, discernment and careful listening.  In small groups and large gatherings, through conversations and shared desserts, we talked honestly about what is working, where we are growing, and where God might be inviting us to reimagine or renew aspects of our church and life together.  More than 150 people participated reflecting our deep commitment to together discern Godโ€™s call for our future.

At its November meeting, the TUC Mission Council set a plan for moving our vision forward in 2026.  The proposed framework for 2026 is:

February  – June
  • Implementation phase for โ€œTaking EVOLVE to the next levelโ€ and โ€œReimagining Friday Nightโ€
  • Re-imagining Phase for โ€œ9am Worshipโ€ and โ€œSmall Groups/Faith Conversationsโ€
  • Mission Council to explore sustainability issues
July – December
  • Implementation phase for โ€œ9am Worshipโ€ and โ€œSmall Groupsโ€
  • Reimagining Phase for โ€œLeadership Development and Mentoringโ€

Throughout our 2025 mission planning process we felt Godโ€™s hand upon us โ€ฆ and a document was produced that tries to encapsulate our purpose as a church, the values we hold, our passions that we want to live out and some goals to help those words become a reality โ€ฆ to help move from words on a page to a lived experience.

As we start 2026, we are inviting people help us move these words into action.  We are asking anyone who is already involved in, connected to, or passionate about the 2026 priority areas to be part of the next round of conversations when we do some re-imagining.

Turramurra Uniting Church Mission Priorities for 2026

EVOLVE is our Sunday evening worshipping community, shaped and led by young adults. It is marked by community, creativity, music, inclusion, and an honest engagement with life and faith. Over the past year, the EVOLVE community has reflected on what gives this gathering life โ€” affirming the centrality of shared meals, high-quality worship, conversations without boundaries, and a strong commitment to discipleship expressed through small groups and relationships.

Looking ahead to 2026, the focus is on strengthening and extending what already works. This includes growing EVOLVEโ€™s online presence, creating clearer and more intentional pathways for people to belong and participate, and refining the flow of Sunday nights alongside forming planning teams that support sustainable leadership. These next steps aim to deepen connection, nurture discipleship, and enable EVOLVE to continue flourishing as a vital part of both TUC and the wider Uniting Church.

Turramurra Uniting Church has long held a deep commitment to nurturing faith among children, youth, and young adults. From playgroup and Turrazone through to Friday nights and EVOLVE, these ministries form an interconnected continuum โ€” supporting young people as they grow, ask questions, build relationships, and discover what faith can mean at each stage of life.

In 2026, we will intentionally strengthen and re-imagine this continuum, with particular focus on Friday night and high school ministry.  Recognising that the needs, commitments, and expectations of young people are changing, we are exploring new approaches that better support connection, belonging, and faith formation โ€” not only on Friday nights, but also through intentional conversations and closer links with Sunday worship.  Our hope is to cultivate a clear and supportive pathway where young people are encouraged, accompanied, and empowered in their faith journey from early childhood through to young adulthood.

The 9am service has long been a central gathering in the life of Turramurra Uniting Church. It has been shaped by creative worship, thoughtful teaching, and deep community. As we look towards the 2030s, we sense God inviting us to reflect prayerfully on how this gathering can continue to be spiritually helpful, life-giving, and accessible for both those who already call it home and those who may yet join us.

In 2026, we will intentionally explore how 9am worship might be renewed for the next season. This includes re-examining how we engage people of all ages, support and empower musicians and leaders sustainably, shape teaching that connects with todayโ€™s questions, and create worship that nurtures both discipleship and genuine connection. We do not begin with fixed outcomes, but with open minds and open hearts. We invite those who are involved in, connected to, or passionate about 9am worship to be part of this journey of re-imagining, confident it will deepen our faith and enrich our shared life together.

While large gatherings matter, faith is often formed most deeply in smaller, intentional spaces. Throughout its life, Turramurra Uniting Church has been shaped by small groups where people talk honestly about life and faith, learn together, and support one another through prayer and care. These conversations already happen in many forms โ€” from Bible studies to playgroup chats, shared meals, menโ€™s and womenโ€™s gatherings, and activity-based groups โ€” wherever people create space to reflect on faith together.

In 2026, we will focus on re-imagining how these intentional faith conversations are encouraged, supported, and resourced. This includes refreshing our approach to small groups, reducing barriers to participation, and recognising a wider variety of discipleship spaces beyond traditional models. Our aim is to grow a culture where talking about faith is natural, accessible, and life-giving and where new discipleship communities can emerge across the breadth of TUC, helping more people grow in faith, connection, and belonging.

Building a sustainable future means being faithful with the people, time, energy, and resources God has entrusted to us. We recognise the growing pressures on volunteers, leaders, and finances, and we are committed to shaping a church that is creative, wise, and kind โ€” focused not on busyness, but on fruitfulness. We believe sustainability is not about simply maintaining what is, but about growing in ways that give life, energy, and capacity for mission.

In 2026, this commitment will be expressed through intentional discernment and practical action. The Mission Council will review how ministry and volunteer time and leadership energy are allocated, seeking the places where our investment can make the greatest difference.  We will also cotinine to explore how our buildings, finances, and volunteer strengths can best support our vision.  Rather than seeing growth as unrealistic or optional, we embrace it as a faithful response that shapes our decisions and enables our mission to flourish into the future.

Alongside our key priority areas, we are also attending to the culture and practices that help our whole church move forward with clarity and purpose. We want to grow a โ€œwhatโ€™s nextโ€ culture โ€” where people are warmly welcomed, clearly invited, and intentionally supported to take their next step into community, discipleship, and service. This includes improving how we communicate who we are and how to connect, particularly through refreshing our website and strengthening pathways for those who are new to TUC.

In 2026, we will also invest intentionally in leadership development and mentoring, recognising that healthy, supported leaders are essential for a thriving and sustainable church.

Alongside this, we will put in place clearer markers to help us reflect, learn, and remain accountable to the vision we have discerned together. Underpinning all of this is a renewed focus on prayer โ€” trusting that discernment, growth, and transformation are ultimately shaped by Godโ€™s Spirit, not just our plans.
