TUC/UCA Bushfire Appeal
Over the past month our hearts have been breaking in response to those affected by the bushfire that are across our state and we are thankful for the firies who have been working so hard to control them. In response to the bushfires the Uniting Church in NSW and across Australia are coordinating more than 300 chaplains working on the ground where it is needed most. They are providing counselling and support in fire evacuation centres and have pledged to do whatever is at its disposal to help communities that have been devastated by bushfires.
The Moderator of the Uniting Church NSW/ACT, Rev. Simon Hansford, said the Church was also planning a series of events over the summer to support local communities, as well as to acknowledge the work of the emergency services in affected areas. “These bushfires have devastated many communities and our emergency services are working tirelessly and sacrificially to save homes. We want to support them in prayer but to back that up with critically needed money, supplies and support for people who have lost so much,” Rev Hansford said.
The Turramurra Uniting Church have committed to giving our entire Christmas Eve and Christmas Day offerings – our largest offerings for the year – towards the Uniting Church bushfire appeal so that the church can continue to do this good work.
