Update on our Children, Youth and Family Pastor Position

It is almost just over 2 months since the Church Council embarked on a new direction with our Children, Youth and Family ministry.   Since Huw’s departure, we have been blessed with the amazing youth leaders in our congregation who have stepped up and helped not only continue Kids Church, Junior Discipleship, Turrazone and SquareOne, but also start Emerge.  And we have seen growth - especially in Turrazone which has doubled in size this term!  And we have established a team who are gearing up to start the playgroup in term 4!  Church Council, in its June meeting, started the process of appointing a new Children, Youth and Family Pastor to support these ministries but particularly to train and empower our awesome leaders.  The process is:

  • To talk to key stakeholders about the draft CYF Pastor Position Description and Guidelines and finalise it in our August meeting.
  • To begin to advertise and explore potential candidates in the second half of this year with the hope of appointing in either term 4 or to start in January 2019.

Church Council expressed a desire in getting the right person for this position and is willing to take the time needed to do this.

Interim Children, Youth and Family Worker Position

In the meantime we acknowledged that our current youth leaders should be supported and so we also approved the establishment of a temporary 16 hours a week position from the beginning of Term 3 to help with the key coordination and administration of these ministries until the CYF Pastor is appointed.  10 of these hours would be focused on the existing key ministries of Turrazone, SquareOne and possibly Kids Church/Jnr Discipleship.  The other six hours would be flexible on the passions of the person filling this position or on the changing needs of our CYF ministries.  The 16 hours can be appointed to one person or split over two people.  Phil would work closely to provide guidance, training and mentoring.

Whilst there would be no guarantee that the person fulfilling this interim position would ultimately be considered for our CYF Pastor role (we plan to advertise widely), it is a great opportunity for one or two people to gain some short term experience and see if ministry is something that they might like to explore in the future.  For more information you can download the advertisement here and the interim job description here or you can fill in the form below and Phil will get back to you.
